If he did, today you might be holding the signature of the next President of the United States. Pretty much out of money and with little hope, his campaign posters could have been collected by the bundles.

Barack Obama, the African-American Freshman Senator running against the Wife-Senator of a former U.S. President, and the first woman in U.S. history to seek the highest office in the land, in a neck to neck race for their party’s nomination. Would we have ever imagined this scenario years ago? Four or five months ago, Barack Obama would have gladly signed an autograph for you or signed one of his campaign posters.

I’ve written two previous Blogs on this very topic, and as the Democratic contenders duke it out with one another, seemingly down to the wire, again, I stress making these memorabilia buys as soon as you can. Although items are already selling on eBay, there’s still time to collect items, if you haven’t yet done so.

However, while this presidential campaign should produce some excellent opportunities for political memorabilia buyers to make some great profits, I feel ashamed for this opportunity.

I feel as if I’m living in a country I no longer recognize. At the age of 66, I’ve seen many election years come and go. Each passing election seems to bring on new and more vicious methods of childish mudslinging. Recently, it appears that this mudslinging is not a spontaneous reaction, as it generally is with children, but instead, is a well calculated war-like maneuver. Whatever happened to the respectful gentlemanly and ladylike behavior exhibited when I was a much younger man?

It’s no wonder the social conduct of our youth leaves the older generation shaking their heads in confusion. One need only take a quick look around and make note of the way the adults in our culture behave to understand where our children’s behavior comes from.

Over the last week or so, we’ve had a man of integrity called “Judas”, a candidate’s loyalty to his county questioned, and an ex-President compared to Joe McCarthy by a General. Have the candidates lost control of their campaign staffs, or is this line of behavior given with the candidates’ blessing? If given with the candidates’ blessing, then this is no more than a well thought out back door character ambush in an attempt to win at any cost. I am inclined to believe it is the latter, otherwise the campaigns would’ve fired the staffers circulating this smut. The first to go could be James Carville, who appears to be nothing more than a political assassin for hire.

I have also listened to a candidate fabricate stories, only to wiggle out of them, yet still remain popular with the voters and still remain a media favorite. Have we evolved here in America? Perhaps technologically, perhaps monetarily, but our behavior and the influence this bad behavior has upon our young people is devolving us, in my opinion.

Make certain you go out today and pick up as much memorabilia as you possibly can, because this promises to be an election like no other to date. At this rate, perhaps in the election of 2012, the candidates will duke it out with one another sporting nothing but their faux animal skins and brandishing faux wooden clubs. All in honor of political correctness, of course.

Double up on any memorabilia from either of the candidate in this election, and by all means, visit the campaign headquarters. Call your friends in other states to visit their headquarters. Ask them to get you posters, buttons, signs and anything else of interest the campaigns are offering. This is going to be quite a historical event.
